On May 1st and 2nd Palermo Show Stable, located at 1555 Burnt Mills Road in Bedminster, will host
the state’s top equine hunters and jumpers on May 1st and 2nd at its second
annual Palermo Festival Finals to benefit Somerset Hills Learning Institute, a
non-profit Bedminster school for children and young adults with autism.
Palermo has been holding monthly shows since November for riders of all ages
and levels for a chance to compete in this final weekend event. The
Palermo Festival Finals, which will begin at 8 AM on both days and be open to
the public, will consist of hunter and equitation classes on Saturday and
jumper classes on Sunday.
One of the highlights of Sunday’s jumper classes will be the $20,000 grand prix
which will feature several locally-based Olympic riders. On Friday, one of the
world’s most renowned course designers, Olaf Peterson will host a non-riding
course design clinic that is open to all at a fee.
Sunday’s family-oriented festivities will include: pony rides; face
painters; food vendors; live music; an animal communicator from 12 - 4 PM; a
silent auction from 11 AM - 6 PM; and a party for all at 5 PM. Some
highlights of the auction include: a riding trip in Buenos Aires, a
Palermo Summer Camp, and a Pessoa saddle.
All proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to Somerset Hills Learning
Institute. “As school district tuition does not meet all of the Institute’s
costs to educate students with autism, we are honored to partner with Palermo
Show Stable, LLC as the beneficiaries of proceeds of the Palermo Festival
Finals,” explained Dr. Kevin J. Brothers, the Institute’s Executive Director.
“Palermo Show Stable and its Palermo Festival Finals is committed to supporting
Somerset Hills Learning Institute in its provision of effective autism
intervention,” said Gretchen Ornia Pacher, owner-operator of Palermo Show
Stable. “This is a community partnership that we would like to see grow
with each year’s Festival.”
